HOW LONG DO CLAY TILES LAST?

One of the most frequently asked questions I receive is, "How long will the roof last?"

The easy answer is, "Long enough that you’ll never have to replace the roof on this home." Depending on the material, you can expect a lifespan of 50 to 100+ years. It's rare to measure a product's lifespan in decades, let alone centuries.

Construction:

Clay and concrete tiles use abundant natural materials, high levels of purification, pressure, and temperature to produce the highest quality, longest-lasting roofs available today.

Durability:

Clay and concrete tiles are impervious to fire, rot, and insects. They can withstand extremes of heat, cold, high winds, and torrential rains. Tile roofs provide superior levels of impact resistance, especially in areas prone to hail.

Lifespan:

A clay or concrete roof is made to last, often being the only roof your home will ever need. Clay roofs can last more than 100 years, while most concrete roofs will last around 70. The actual lifespan will depend on the climate and the level of upkeep from the homeowner.

Inspections:

Regular maintenance is key to the longevity of any product. Identifying and addressing issues early is crucial to ensuring your roof lasts as long or longer than expected. Having a roofer inspect your roof every two to three years is the best plan for its well-being. Simple tasks like clearing leaves from gutters or valleys will help water flow properly and keep your roof in good condition.

Repairs:

Occasionally, a few tiles might get damaged over the years due to hail, acorns, tree branches, or even unusual incidents like seagulls dropping rocks. Having some replacement tiles on hand is a good idea, and we can help with that. New and reclaimed tiles for field tile and fittings are available from Northern Roof Tiles.
